About Nadia

Nadia Swearingen-Friesen is a parent, educator, speaker, and trainer with over 20
years experience in assisting others in the development of their leadership skills.  She
has had the privilege of working with many age groups: from elementary through
college students, to adults working in many fields.

She began her work as a teen through
Operation Snowball, a high school substance
abuse prevention program, and continues to work with this organization today.  For
her work with Snowball and other Chicagoland teen programs, Nadia was given the
“Exemplary Youth Volunteer of the Year” award in a White House ceremony.

Nadia taught early elementary school for 6 years, has worked with a variety of ages in
camp situations, and served as a residence director and Leadership Development
Coordinator for Residence Life at
Trinity Christian College.  During her years at Trinity,
Nadia developed an interim course in Leadership Development and has worked
closely with the First Year Experience Program for freshman students, training student
mentors and professors for this work.

She now develops training programs for a variety of organizations, including continued
work at Trinity.  Nadia enjoys the challenge of creating programs and meeting the
individual need of each client.  In recent years, Nadia has worked with the Dale
Carnegie Corporation, helping to train business men and women to work confidently
in their chosen fields.

Most recently, Nadia has created a Leadership Development Program for teachers
and students of
Southwest Chicago Christian School in Tinley Park and has developed
a speaking ministry for women’s groups.   The growth of this speaking ministry has been
most rewarding and allows Nadia to use her varied experiences to encourage women
in many stages of life.
In 2008, Nadia is a featured speaker and presenter for 3 different
Hearts at Home conferences, in Illinois, Michigan, and Minnesota.

Raised on the south side of Chicago, Nadia now lives in Orland Park and, in addition
to her training and speaking work, is busy raising her four children with husband, Mark.
The Friesen family attends Hope Christian Reformed Church, where Nadia has served
as a deacon and facilitates Hope’s Mom’s Group.
When the
17-year-old Nadia
received an award
from the President
(we won't divulge
which one!) in the
Rose Garden, she
was asked
afterwards for her
impression of the
most powerful man
in the Western
World.  "He
smelled
good", was her reply!

Despite spending 7
years in the
Freshmen Dorm
(okay, 6 of them
were as a Resident
Director), Nadia now
finds herself the
President of the
Alumni Board at her
alma mater.
